Located in Louisville, Colorado, The BUILD Cycling Academy provides a positive and engaging cycling experience that nurtures each athlete’s development through a modeled culture of care, leadership, and a commitment to self improvement—while inspiring a lifelong curiosity for learning, growth, and the sport itself.

The BUILD Cycling Academy strives to not only maximize athletic performance and be the hub of team building, but also integrate its three core values, courage to take on difficult challenges of life, character to become a solid human beings, and community involvement to give back to the community we love.

Located in Louisville, Colorado, BUILD Academy and Training Center will be home for team events in our community room and athlete performance services to include physiological testing, biomechanical analysis, coaching, and more.

2026 Mountain Bike Program

2026 Mountain Bike Program
Build Cycling Academy is a junior development program for athletes with at least one year of high school mountain bike racing experience who want to deepen their understanding of training, nutrition, and race strategy.

 

Athlete Requirements
A mountain bike less than five years old
Clip-in shoes, or a willingness to begin using them within the first few weeks of the season
Prior experience racing at least one high school MTB season

 


Build Cycling Academy is ideal for motivated athletes who are ready to move beyond simply “riding hard” and begin learning the fundamentals of structured training, racing strategy and proper nutrition while training alongside a committed peer group and knowledgeable coaches.

 

Because the program follows a progressive sequence, athletes are expected to attend most scheduled practices. Missing sessions may result in falling behind as skills, fitness, as concepts build week to week.


Program Structure

Season: 16 weeks, March 25th thru July 16 (No practice week of July 4) 
Frequency: 2 coached team gatherings per week
Cost: $1875
Duration: Approximately 2 hours per session
Focus: Fitness development, skills, race tactics, and preparation aligned with upcoming events and athlete goals
Additional opportunities: Athletes who are identified as ready for more advanced training may have the opportunity to receive an individualized training plan delivered through TrainingPeaks. Additional costs apply.


Practice Schedule

Spring 

Wed/Thurs 4:30–6:30 PM
Meeting locations rotate throughout the Superior and Lafayette areas to maximize daylight, Short track racing on Wednesdays in May


Summer

Wed 4:30-6:30pm in June, Switches to 9-11am in July
Thurs 9:00–11:00 AM
Locations expand to Betasso, Lyons, Golden, and Nederland to expose athletes to a wide range of terrain and trail demands across the Front Range


Racing & Development Focus
The program supports riders across a range of ability levels—from developing racers to experienced competitors—meeting athletes at their current level and helping them progress toward their goals. A key focus is preparing riders with the fitness, skills, and knowledge needed for success in the fall high school mountain bike season.

 

Racing opportunities primarily include local Front Range events, with team participation in races such as The Bear, Fangdango, Valmont Short Track and select Winter Park XC Series events.

Winter Training Program

Join at your home pain cave weekdays for 1-hour indoor cycling sessions targeted at developing your fitness and having fun in a group environment. Weekend group rides will be scheduled to build volume and fitness over the winter months.

Improve Your Fitness and Technique

Join BUILD Cycling Academy on Zwift for weekly training sessions, group rides, and races from the "comfort" of your own pain cave. Connect your Smart Trainer, set up your Zwift and Discord accounts, and join the BUILD Zwift Club to get started! Winter programming runs from January to March

Weather permitting, outdoor group rides are scheduled to complement indoor training. Riders will primarily focus on zone 2/base training, extending duration, and building durability with progressively longer and/or more difficult rides. Early season race preparation will be a component of this for riders signed up for spring events.

Performance-Focused Programs for Aspiring young athletes

The BUILD Cycling Academy is designed to provide a positive and engaging cycling experience that accelerates the growth of all athletes in the program.

Athletes will participate in two to three training sessions per week, will receive team support during races, and are eligible for team-priced services at BUILD Sports Performance Lab and Physical Therapy.

The program will implement a low athlete-to-coach ratio to maximize one-on-one contact and mentorship during practices and races.

Joe Lewis

The program is led by Joe Lewis, a cycling coach and ex-professional with eight years of experience developing junior athletes. Joe has guided dozens of riders from junior categories through collegiate and professional pathways and currently works with athletes competing in the Lifetime Grand Prix and the WorldTour road scene.

<p>Josh Gray</p>

Josh Gray

Josh is a longtime cyclist, triathlete, and competitive racer in marathon cross-country mountain bike and gravel events. He has been coaching the Monarch/Broomfield/Peak to Peak High School Mountain Bike Teams for about five years and is passionate about helping student-athletes develop their skills on the trail. Off the bike, Josh works for a technology startup.

Larry is the owner of BUILD and the sponsor of BUILD Cycling Academy. He is deeply invested in growing the next generation of competitive cycling, sharing his love for the sport, and supporting the BUILD Cycling Academy team members via biomechanics, performance, and physical therapy services. You're likely to spot him at most races!
